Gathering firewood - ugh!
Definite water in the cooking area.
Ken is awesome. He got out his chainsaw and cut up a lot of deadfalls near my cooking area for me to cook with if we ever have a nit wet day.
We worked for about an hour and a half. Got enough wood for maybe a couple of days of a SINGLE meal.
And definitely burned about three quarters of what I consider full day's calories (1200 kCal) for a somewhat sedentary lifestyle.
They would have chopped all the wood by hand axe. They would have had to have carried the wood themselves from whereever it was chopped, back to near the hearth.
While I realize that was their "normal", by today's (city-folk) standards, just getting fuel to cook with is a lot of work!
